Delphian

what does it mean?

pertaining to the oracle of Delphi; having several senses

Built around a sacred spring, Delphi was considered to be the omphalos - the centre of the world. People came from all over to have their questions about the future answered by the Pythia, the priestess of Apollo.

History

Delphian, a McIntosh 47, from American designer Tim Kings, was built in GRP by Hansa Yachts and Schiffbau in Taiwan in 1988 for owners in Hong Kong where she was cruised and raced extensively. In 1998, Delphian left Hong Kong for Melbourne, but then relocated to Sydney until she was purchased by us in November 2004.

Background

She is a genuine long distance cruiser and her below deck space and light is unique, fitted out in teak. As a result she is comfortable, with air-conditioning, refrigeration and ice-maker, and is an exceptional blue water cruising yacht. She performs well under sail and has competed successfully in performance handicap racing.

Cruising

We are members of the Sandringham Yacht Club in Victoria, Townsville Yacht Club and Shag Islet Yacht Club in North Queensland. We race casually on Sundays at Sandringham, and have cruised extensively in Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland. Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks have featured in 2007-08. Magnetic Island Race Week was a highlight in 2009-10. Future plans include South-East Asia and the Pacific.
